About Maven Clinic
Maven Clinic is the world's largest virtual clinic for women and families. They support members and families through every stage of the family building journey, from fertility and maternity care to parenting, pediatrics, and menopause.
Challenge: Making healthcare truly accessible worldwide
As the largest virtual clinic for women and families around the world, Maven has already worked hard to earn members’ trust, which started with recruiting a network of local care advocates and providers.
But delivering equitable healthcare means more than just offering services; it requires removing language and cultural barriers that might prevent someone from accessing the care they need.
Apart from English, Spanish, French, and Canadian French are some of Maven's most commonly spoken languages among their members.
So translating their digital app experience was a top priority to ensure the care they provide is accessible and culturally relevant, as well as consistent.
Dawn Godbolt, Director of Health Equity at Maven Clinic, explains:
"Research shows that delivering care in one's preferred language improves patient-provider relationships by delivering culturally appropriate care and building trust through clear communication, ultimately improving health outcomes and patient safety."
Maven needed localization to integrate seamlessly with their existing digital health platform, and content needed to be 100% accurate since there's no room for translation errors in healthcare.
Their current workflow wasn’t working.
The team would transfer an English copy that needed translation into a Google sheet, and ask a translator to fill out the appropriate translations. They would then transfer the translated copy into the appropriate format. This process involved a lot of manual steps, which was time-consuming and error-prone.

Solution: Partner with Lokalise for enterprise-grade localization
Maven chose Lokalise to power localization in their platform, translating their entire digital experience into Spanish, French, and Canadian French, with plans for additional languages.
When vetting solutions, Maven wanted a solution that would allow them to deliver their services efficiently to all members, regardless of their language of choice.
“Lokalise provides the ability to give on-demand care in multiple languages, giving Maven the confidence to say that we continue to be the leader in the delivery of digital women’s health", explains
Ana Alonso, International Program Lead.
Key reasons why Maven chose Lokalise
Nate Powers, Software Engineer at Maven, had complete confidence in Lokalise from day one for several reasons:
- Enterprise reliability backed by AWS
“With AWS backing Lokalise, I had complete confidence in their reliability and performance. As the technical lead, it was critical for me to choose a localization platform that could meet our enterprise-grade expectations, ensuring our members always have seamless access to the care they need. Lokalise has exceeded those expectations.”
- Developer-first approach: Amazing API documentation, third-party integrations, and mobile SDK support enabled seamless CI/CD workflow integration.
- High translation quality: Advanced AI translation combined with professional linguist review, plus features like style guides and translation memory, ensured 100% accuracy.
- Easy deployment: Maven was able to automate processes and reduce translation turnaround times without compromising quality. It was easy to self-serve, although help was available whenever they needed it.
- True partnership:
”We wanted to work with a vendor that really matched Maven: technically strong, innovative, and service-minded. That's what we found with Lokalise.”
Implementation: seamless automation and integration for on-demand care in multiple languages
The team got started with Lokalise quickly, thanks to self-serve automations, comprehensive API documentation, and plug-and-play integrations. Maven connected Lokalise to their entire tech stack, including:
- GitHub and GitLab to connect to their existing development workflow for pulling and pushing string assets
- Contentful for in-app content translation
- Braze for translation of member-facing communications
- Figma for designers to see translations in context
- Webflow for translation of the Maven website
The marketing team started using Lokalise through the Webflow integration to translate website pages and content inside components. They needed a streamlined translation process, without a highly technical setup and one that was cost effective and automated.
They also had a tight deadline. By helping them mitigate a ton of manual work, Lokalise helped them meet it.

With Lokalise's AI translation capabilities expanding rapidly, now picking the best LLMs for each use case and language pair, the Maven team added an AI translation step to their automated workflows, along with a review from professional translators and linguists.
In just a few clicks, they set up automated rules and customized workflows to:
- Auto-approve and reuse high-quality translations
- Translate with contextually aware AI as soon as new content is detected
- Allow developers to cut down manual tasks and localize twice as fast.
”Because we invested heavily in process automation we’re now in a position where adding new languages is almost a one-click deploy step.”
Results: Global support that members trust and continued business growth
Maven won a large new client in Canada that wouldn't have considered Maven without the experience being available in Canadian French.
They’ve also seen an increase in adoption: about 1% of domestic members and ~3% of international members are already using Maven in their preferred language, just within the first month after launch, with this number expected to grow as more clients launch Maven and existing members switch to their preferred language.
These strong adoption numbers reflect the positive user feedback from members using Maven in Spanish, French, and/or French Canadian. They noted the high quality of translations and how Maven felt native to their preferred languages, which was one of Maven's desired outcomes.
Beyond new business growth, the localization project and operations were a huge success, coming in over a month early, 20% under budget, and launching with zero production issues. Lokalise also eliminated manual translation management (“and the nightmare of sending Excel sheets and documents back and forth”), allowing developers to localize at twice the speed.
By partnering with Lokalise, Maven has been able to connect with customers in every language, accelerate global growth, and, in 2024, became the first digital health company to receive NCQA Health Equity accreditation. This credential from the US-based healthcare quality governing body speaks directly to Maven's comprehensive approach to equitable care delivery.
The rollout also revealed unexpected insights about Maven's member base.
”When we initially focused on offering Maven in Spanish, our primary goal was supporting our global members in Spanish-speaking Latin America and Europe. However, since launch, we've been quite surprised to see that around 70% of the members now using the app in Spanish are actually based in the US.”
Future: Scaling equitable care worldwide
Maven's clients and members see language access as part of the company's commitment to being a trusted partner throughout patient journeys. By building solutions that center on individual identities, including preferred language, Maven maintains its competitive edge in the digital health space.
The partnership with Lokalise has proven invaluable, with the Lokalise team becoming an extension of Maven's own team throughout the localization process.
”We look forward to continuing our partnership with Lokalise, as they play a key role in enabling Maven to deliver equitable care to our diverse member base.”
From day one, Maven founder Kate Ryder designed the company to change the world, one woman and one family at a time, with "keeping healthcare human" as a core value.
With Lokalise, Maven is excited to move forward with their mission to continue providing high-quality care to members around the world, making sure they’re beyond satisfied with the quality of care that they receive.
